PRIORAT

Blending Escape

Priorat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has become known as one of the world’s most unique and rewarding places to make powerful yet mineral-driven and food friendly wine.

Perhaps no other wine region in the world so perfectly toes the line between ancient tradition and modern winemaking techniques. Especially when combined with a quest to partake of the many Catalonian specialties prepared by the world class chefs here, an immersion via tasting the mind blowing wines is an epicurean traveler’s dream trip.

WHY YOU GO

•Ancient winemaking tradition taken to the next level by the New Guard – you’ll taste with some of the best, Vines friends like Sara Perez and Rene Barbier

• A jamon and paella picnic in a mountainside vineyard, gazing out at the neighboring UNESCO World Heritage towns

• The unheard of opportunity to craft your own Priorat wine with the revolutionary Dominik Huber and his winemaking/life partner Tatjana Peceric

THE ITINERARY

DAY 1 - THURSDAY, MAY 28

BENVINGUTS!

(That’s Catalan for Welcome!)
Afternoon arrivals to BCN Airport and transfer to the stunning Terra Dominicata hotel in Priorat, located just a two-hour scenic drive from Barcelona.

Orientation tasting in the hotel

Begin your journey into Priorat with a well curated tasting led by one of The Vines team wine experts. Discover the region’s fascinating history, unique terroir, and iconic wines in the hotel’s atmospheric “workshop kitchen”.

Welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant Mater Terrae

We’ll go upstairs for an al fresco dinner at the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant, featuring a menu inspired by the region’s freshest local ingredients. Joining us will be one of our favorite local winemakers, who will guide us through her celebrated wines, while offering insights into her unique passion for the craft.

DAY 2 - FRIDAY, MAY 29

PRIORAT WINEMAKER FOR A DAY & PAELLA PICNIC

Blending session with Dominik and Tatjana at Terroir al Limit

Kick off your Priorat experience at one of the region’s finest: our winemaking partner Terroir al Limit. Winemakers Dominik and Tatjana will walk you through their innovative approach to crafting elegant, fresh Grenache- and Carignan-based wines that redefine the region’s style, and then we will blend our own Priorat. Will you choose a Grenache-dominant or a Carignan-dominant blend? You might surprise yourself…

Paella picnic in the vineyard

Hop into 4x4s to explore the steep vineyards en route to La Morera, where you’ll enjoy a picturesque picnic including some of the world’s best Iberian jamón, freshly prepared paella, and wines from Terroir al Limit’s Montsant project, surrounded by breathtaking views.

Optional group yoga session on the hotel terrace

Back at the hotel, engage your inner self as we stretch out and take advantage of the beautiful setting and fresh mountain air.

Rest and relaxation

Unwind with a book by the pool, or hit the spa, before the evening’s festivities.

Traditional Catalan dinner at winemaker favorite Brot’s

Dine like a local at Brot’s, a beloved winemaker’s retreat in the charming village of Poboleda. Enjoy a thoughtfully curated seasonal menu paired with wines from across the region. The jovial owner is a true wine lover – which immediately becomes evident when you see the wine list.

DAY 3 - SATURDAY, MAY 30

Guided walk to and private tour of the Carthusian Monastery Scala Dei

Step back in time with a visit to the historic Carthusian Monastery of Scala Dei, the birthplace of Priorat winemaking. Wander through the beautifully preserved grounds and immerse yourself in the rich legacy of the monks who started it all.

Private tasting and lunch with a next-generation winemaker

By now, Priorat has some wine “dynasties”, families who have been making wine since the beginning, whose children have now taken the reins. These members of the new generation are taking Priorat winemaking to new heights while always respecting the traditions passed down to them. We’ll sit down with one of them to talk wine and philosophy as we taste through the wines and enjoy a lunch of local specialties.

Private tasting at one of the original Priorat legends (or optional e-bike excursion)

After our morning tasting with the new generation, we return to the source, tasting wines from one of the “founders” of Priorat winemaking. Hearing stories of how it was back in the day, with a glass of wine in hand and the terraced black slate vineyards as our backdrop, just brings it all home. But if you’re feeling more in the mood for outdoor activity, we’ve got you covered, with e-bikes to carry you through the hills of Torroja and beyond.

Rest and relaxation

Recharge back at the hotel before your final evening in Priorat.

Winemakers’ gathering and dinner at Cal Compte

End your adventure with a memorable dinner on the terrace of this beautiful old mansion (now a hotel), like something out of a 1950s movie set in Havana. We’ll have a giant authentic paella prepared by a Michelin-starred chef for our group, which will include some of Dominik’s friends from the area bringing their own wines to share – and we will see where the night takes us.

DAY 4 - SUNDAY, MAY 31

ADEU!

Departures, or continue on for further exploration.
